RSP observes ‘Chemical Disaster Prevention Day’

Rourkela: A programme was organised at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP)'s Safety Training Hall on December 4, to mark Chemical Disaster Prevention Day. Manoj Kumar Mishra Assistant Director, Factories and Boiler the government of Odisha, was the chief guest of the programme. Present on the dais were RSP's Chief General Manager (CO&CC) B Pattnaik and RSP's General Manager In-charge (Safety, Fire & Environment) Subrat Acharya. In all 70 employees including contract labour from Coke Ovens, Coal Chemical Department and Safety Engineering Department attended the session in two different phases.

Two technical sessions were organised on the occasion. RSP's Assistant General Manager (CCD) Piyush Jain conducted one session on steps to be taken to prevent chemical accidents. In the other technical session, Manoj Kumar Mishra deliberated on different rules and regulations of disaster management, the role of safety officers and Chemical Accidents.

Earlier the programme commenced with the screening of a video film on Bhopal Gas Disaster. A two-minute silence was observed to pay homage to the 'Bhopal Gas Tragedy' victims.

At the outset, Acharya welcomed the gathering. RSP's Deputy General Manager (Safety) JP Mallick proposed a formal vote of thanks. The programme (Chemical Disaster Prevention Day) was coordinated by  RSP's Deputy Manager (Safety) BK Padhy.
