Rourkela/New Delhi: Swasti Singh, daughter of Uma Devi and Amar Singh, the employees of Oxygen Plant of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and the star cyclist of RSP, has brought laurels for Rourkela as well as for Odisha by bagging one Gold and one Silver Medal in Cycling at 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020 being held at Guwahati.

Swasti won the Gold Medal in the 7,500 metres Track Scratch event in the Under-21 girls' category. She also won the silver medal in the 60 km Mass Start event in under 21 categories with a timing of 2 hours 11 minutes 52.21 seconds.

It is worth mentioning here that Khelo India programme (Khelo India Youth Games) has been introduced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India to revive the sports culture in the country at the grassroots level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

Notably, Swasti, who has learnt the nuances of Cycling at the Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium under the watchful eyes of Sushil Das, Cycling Coach of RSP, has been a true revelation. She has been consistently exhibiting excellent performance and drawn media attention by achieving a series of successes at many prestigious national and international events. Recently she won silver medal in South Asian Games – 2019.

Swasti's streak of successes includes her recent success at the 24th National Road Cycling Championship-2019 held at Jaipur where she got a Gold and Bronze Medal participating in two back to back events on the same day. Earlier, she had bagged Bronze Medal in the 2 Kilometre Individual Pursuit for India in the Track Asia Cup Cycling Championship – 2019 held at New Delhi. She had also won Gold Medal in the 2 Km Women Junior Individual Pursuit event in the 5th Asian Track Cycling Championship – 2018 organised by the Cycling Federation of India at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
