New Delhi: Amid the nation's lockdown due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Coal India Limited, along with its subsidiary companies, is playing a very important role in full-filling the power demand of the country. In such a challenging time, the company had not only contributed to the Prime Minister's CARES Fund but also taking various relief measures to protect society from COVID-19.

Being a pioneer in its social engagement, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Miniratna coal PSU and a subsidiary company of Coal India Limited has initiated various relief measure in coordination with the state government and district administration for prevention and cure of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. SECL is operating in 10 districts in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh (MP) consisting of 13 coalfields areas, having such a huge command area, is fighting with Coronavirus pandemic relentlessly and helping the community in all these districts to deal with the crises by providing necessary infrastructural and protective & preventive material in coordination with district administration.

The colonies neighbouring SECL command areas are being sanitized and the people affected due to lockdown are being provided with essential commodities like food grains, etc. The coal industry is coming under "Public Utility Service" and the team SECL had produced 150. 55 million tons of coal and is the highest coal-producing and the only company to reach to achieve this milestone thereby meeting the ever-increasing demand of power of the country Union Minister for Mines and Coal Pralhad Joshi lauded the efforts taken by coal PSUs and thanked all the coal workers who are working round the clock to meet the power recruitment.

So far, SECL Limited has provided following state-wise assistance under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to combat Coronavirus (COVID-19):-

  1. Rs 10.00 crore has been given to Chhattisgarh State Disaster Management Authority to combat to COVID-19 in the state
  2. The exclusive COVID-19 treatment centres have been set-up in Bilaspur and Ambikapur (MP) districts with a cost of 8.27 crore
  3. Rs 1.00 crore was given to Korba District and 0.25 crore each to Surajpur, Balrampur, Anuppur, Shahdol and Umaria districts for the prevention of COVID-19
  4. Four new quarantine centres have been set-up at Bilaspur with a total cost of 24.34 lakh.
