New Delhi: SJVN Limited's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Nand Lal Sharma on Friday presided over the 13th Convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Chief Guest Sharma conferred Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals to the toppers of B-Tech courses. This year, a total of 1,172 degrees were awarded, with 563 receiving it physically and remaining in absentia. He also awarded the Director's Medal for the Best All-Rounder to Akhya Rai, B Tech (Civil Engineering).
In his convocation address, Sharma congratulated the graduating students for successfully completing the academic courses. Motivating them to think out-of-box and challenge the conventional methods, Sharma said "Be hungry and dissatisfied; hungry for knowledge and dissatisfied with what you know and have already. Constantly learn new things, strive to grow, tenaciously stick to your targets even in the face of difficulty, make quick decisions and you will definitely achieve success."
Sharma further urged the students to make their alma mater proud by giving back to the institute, helping out the juniors and bringing quality to everything they do. He exhorted them to contribute to nation-building by promoting various initiatives of the government such as Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local, Digital India, Skill India etc.
On this occasion, Sharma also applauded the efforts of the faculty and staff of NIT Hamirpur for working diligently to impart quality education and making the institute premier academic Institution in the country. "SJVN and NIT Hamirpur, both the leading premier institutions in their respective fields, have a very long association and are the Techno-Cultural partners," said Sharma. He added that taking this partnership a step further, an MOU has been signed between SJVN and NIT Hamirpur today for establishing SJVN Chair Professorship for taking up R&D activities in power development. As part of this MoU, SJVN is contributing Rs 40 Lakhs. He announced that SJVN is proactive and open to collaborating on any research project by students of NIT Hamirpur in the field of hydro, solar, wind, consultancy, green hydrogen etc.
SJVN Limited started out with a single project in Himachal Pradesh and currently has a total portfolio of around 42,000 MW. Very high manpower productivity displayed by SJVN employees has given the company a transnational presence and it is implementing 69 projects pan India & abroad. With the shared vision of 5,000 MW by 2023, 25,000 MW by 2030 & 50,000 MW capacity by 2040, the company aims to be a strategic partner in actualizing the government of India's vision of generating 50 percent of energy from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.
