Two defence officials appointed as Director in Department of Commerce

New Delhi: Defence service officials, R Arulanandan (IDAS) and Anand Kumar Mishra (IDSE) have been recommended for the appointment as Directors in the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday. According to the two separate orders issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), both the officials have been selected for the appointment under the central staffing scheme (CSS) for a period of five years with effect from their respective dates of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Both were recommended for the central deputation by the Ministry of Defence. As per the notifications, they may be relieved of their duties immediately with instructions to take up their new assignment in the Department of Commerce.

Anand Kumar Mishra is an Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE) officer of the 1999-batch while Arulanandan is an Indian Defence Account Service (IDAS) officer of the 2006 batch.

Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is a department under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The department is responsible for formulating, implementing and monitoring the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) which provides the basic framework of policy and strategy to be followed for promoting exports and trade. The trade policy is periodically reviewed to incorporate changes necessary to take care of emerging economic scenarios both in the domestic and international economy. Besides, the department is also entrusted with responsibilities relating to multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, special economic zones, state trading, export promotion and trade facilitation, and development and regulation of certain export-oriented industries and commodities.
