New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya as Director (Projects) of NTPC Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Bhattacharya has been appointed to the post of Director (Projects) of NTPC Limited for a period with effect from the date of his assumption of the charge of the post till the date of his superannuation i.e. November 30, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The post of Director (Projects) in NTPC is vacant since December 1, 2019. As Director (Projects) of NTPC, Bhattacharya will be responsible for achieving excellence in Techno-economical aspects of Power Plant Engineering and execution.
Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Bhattacharya was recommended for the post of Director (Projects) of NTPC Limited on March 3. He was selected from the list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel.
Bhattacharya is an engineering graduate (Electrical Engineering) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He also did an MBA from the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon. Prior to joining NTPC Limited, he was heading BIFPCL (Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Limited) as Managing Director.

NTPC Limited is India's largest energy conglomerate with roots planted way back in 1975 to accelerate power development in India. It is a company incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 and is promoted by the government.
