Upendra Prasad Singh (IAS) assumes charge of Secretary in Textiles Ministry

New Delhi: Upendra Prasad Singh (IAS) has taken over as Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles on Wednesday. He is a 1985-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre. Prior to this, he was serving as Secretary in the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti since December 1, 2017. He has held important assignments in both central and state governments and possesses rich and varied experience.

He joined the Ministry of Water Resources & River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation on June 1, 2016, as Additional Secretary and also held the post of Mission Director for National Water Mission (NWM). Later he assumed the charge of Director-General, National Mission for Cleaning Ganga (NMCG) on October 7, 2016. Prior to joining the Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR he had worked as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.  He has the experience of working in different sectors like water resources, finance, steel, transport, etc. He had been deeply involved in policy, planning and management of water resources in India.

Ministry of Textiles

The Ministry of Textiles is an Indian government national agency responsible for the formulation of policy, planning, development, export promotion and regulation of the textile industry in India. This includes all-natural, artificial, and cellulosic fibres that go into the making of textiles, clothing and Handicrafts. The current Minister of Textiles is Smriti Irani.
