New Delhi: Vikram Singh (IRTS) has been appointed as Government Nominee Director of Shipping Corporation of India (SCI). Singh is an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer of the 1997-batch. He is currently posted as Joint Secretary (Ports & Shipping) in the Ministry of Port, Shipping & Waterways. With this, he has replaced Satinder Pal Singh (IPS). This information has been shared by SCI during a regulatory filing to the stock exchange on Monday.
Vikram Singh, a 1997-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). He is currently serving as Joint Secretary (Port & Shipping) in the Ministry of Port, Shipping & Waterways. Prior to joining the Ministry of Port, Shipping & Waterways, he was posted as Private Secretary to President Ramnath Kovind. While working in the Indian Railways, Singh was working in the vertical responsible for increasing revenues from the passenger segment and creating policies for commercial earnings within the passenger-amenities ecosystem. He also has held as Senior Director in the Traffic Commercial directorate in the Indian Railways.
The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is a Navratna PSU with its headquarters in Mumbai. The company operates and manages vessels that service both national and international lines. The company was established on October 2, 1961, by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Two more shipping companies, Jayanti Shipping Company and Mogul Lines Limited, were merged with SCI in 1973 and 1986 respectively. SCI started out with 19 vessels.
