VK Johri appointed DGP-MP, ITBP DG to head BSF for now

New Delhi: Vivek Kumar Johri, an IPS officer of 1984 batch will be the new DGP of Madhya Pradesh. VK Johri has been repatriated to his parent cadre by the centre. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had issued an order on Wednesday approving the proposal of the home ministry for repatriation of Johri to his parent cadre with an immediate effect.

Johri is expected to reach Madhya Pradesh state capital Bhopal on Thursday and subsequently take over his new assignment by coming Monday. VK Johri was appointed DG, BSF on August 31, 2019. As he moves to his parent cadre, now the DG ITBP SS Deswal will be acting as the temporary head of the Border Security Force, an order issued by the Union Home Ministry has said. SS Deswal is expected to take charge of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday evening.

The order issued on Tuesday said Deswal will handle this charge "till the appointment and joining of the successor or until further orders, whichever is earlier". A 1984-batch Haryana cadre IPS officer Deswal has earlier served as the DG, Sashastra Seema Bal. He has also held the additional charge of DG Central Reserve Police Force and National Security Guard. Congress government in Madhya Pradesh had issued an order appointing Johri as the new Director-General of Police.

The order issued from the office of the chief minister Kamal Nath also shifted incumbent DGP VK Singh to the Sports and Youth Welfare Department as its director. According to the same order, DG Cyber Cell Rajendra Kumar, a 1985-batch officer, has been asked to officiate as the DGP till Johri takes over.
