New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has shortlisted eight candidates for the post of Indian Oil Corporation's (IOC) Director (Planning and Business Development), a document accessed by PSU Watch shows. The position, for which the PESB is slated to hold interviews on October 29, is going to be a neck-to-neck contest between all the shortlisted candidates as seven out of eight people have a strong background of being involved in business development at Indian Oil, sources told PSU Watch. "There cannot be any frontrunners this time as the field has players of equal calibre," said a source.

Indian Oil Director (Planning & Business Development): Shortlist

According to the document accessed by PSU Watch, the PESB has shortlisted six Executive Directors from within Indian Oil for the post of Director (Planning & Business Development). The list includes Subimal Mondal, Hridesh Baindail, Shyam Bohra, Sanjeev Gupta, Sujoy Choudhury and Sandeep Jain. In addition, the PESB has also shortlisted two Executive Directors from GAIL (India) Ltd — Sanjay Kumar and Rajeev Kumar Singhal. 

Last week, before Sukla Mistry was recommended for Indian Oil's Director (Refineries) post, PSU Watch had reported that Mistry was the strongest contender amidst the three frontrunners. 

Background

A vacancy for the post was floated in October 2020. Director (Planning & Business Development) contributes to the formulation of corporate plans, policies, and strategies, both short and long term, towards attaining the business objectives of the company. They are the Head of the Business Development wing and are responsible for the overall performance of the business development function.

Indian Oil accounts for nearly half of India's petroleum products' market share, with sales of 81.027 million metric tonnes (MMT) in the year 2020-21. The oil PSU has a group refining capacity of 80.55 MMTPA and over 15,000 Km of pipeline network dedicated to fuel India's economic rise.
