New Delhi: The government has approved the appointment of Abhishek Dev (IAS) to the post of Director in the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instruction to take up his new assignment in the Department of Commerce," the order read. 

Abhishek Dev is a 2007-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the AGMUT cadre. He is currently posted as Director of Census Operations at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is a department under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The department is responsible for formulating, implementing and monitoring the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) which provides the basic framework of policy and strategy to be followed for promoting exports and trade. The trade policy is periodically reviewed to incorporate changes necessary to take care of emerging economic scenarios both in the domestic and international economy. Besides, the department is also entrusted with responsibilities relating to multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, special economic zones, state trading, export promotion and trade facilitation, and development and regulation of certain export-oriented industries and commodities.
