New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of the additional charge of the post of Secretary in the Department of Fisheries to Atul Chaturvedi (IAS) on Thursday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Chaturvedi has been given additional charge of the post upon relinquishing the charge of the post by Rajeev Ranjan (IAS), till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He is a 1986-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam cadre. Currently, he is serving as Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying.

Further, in a separate order issued on the same day, the ACC has also approved the proposal for appointment of Dr Chintan Vaishnav as Mission Director of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under the NITI Aayog. He has been appointed to the post on contract basis for a period of two years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Department of Fisheries

The Department of Fisheries is one of the two Departments under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. It came into existence with effect from February 5, 2019, through carving out Fishery Division from the erstwhile Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries. The Department is under the overall charge of the Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Giriraj Singh, assisted by two Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying namely Dr Sanjiv Kumar Balyan and Pratap Chandra Sarangi.
