New Delhi: Retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ajit Doval has been re-appointed as National Security Advisor. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on June 13, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ajit Doval with effect from June 10. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Doval joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1968 in the Kerala cadre as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Kottayam district. He was actively involved in anti-insurgency operations in Punjab. Doval worked in Thalassery, Kerala, for a few months in 1972, before joining the central service.
On May 30, 2014, Doval was appointed as India's fifth National Security Advisor. In June 2014, Doval facilitated the return of 46 Indian nurses who were trapped in a hospital in Tikrit, Iraq, following the capture of Mosul by ISIL.
