Nitish Suri (ITradeS) appointed as Director in Department of Higher Education

Nitish Suri (ITradeS) has been appointed as Director in the Department of Higher Education, under the Ministry of Education

New Delhi: Nitish Suri (ITradeS) has been appointed as Director in the Department of Higher Education, under the Ministry of Education, Govt of India on Friday. He has been appointed to the post under the Central Staffing Scheme.

Suri is an officer of the Indian Trade Service (ITradeS) of 2011-batch. Presently, he is serving as the Joint Director General of Foreign Trade (Joint DGFT) in the Government of India.

The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) issued the order on Friday, stating that Suri, who was recommended for Central deputation by the Department of Commerce, will serve in the post for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

As per the directive, he will be relieved from his present assignment immediately to take up the new role in the Department of Higher Education.

At the current position, Suri's role encompasses the strategic areas of international trade policy, export promotion, and the management of India's export control system. Mr. Suri represents India in key export control regimes such as the Wassenaar Arrangement, MTCR, and the Australia Group. He is also actively involved in trade facilitation and ensuring compliance with the WTO's Trade Facilitation Agreement.

Before his tenure in the Indian Trade Service, which he joined in 2012, Suri held positions as a Senior Business Analyst at Innodata Isogen and a Business Analyst at Infosys. His educational background includes a Post Graduate Diploma in International Business from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, University of Pune. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the James Martin Centre for Non Proliferation Studies (CNS) at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
