Power Secretary SN Sahai gets additional charge of Secretary post at MNRE

Sanjeev Nandan Sahai, who is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Power, has been given additional charge of Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of the additional charge of Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to Sanjeev Nandan Sahai (IAS) on Monday. According to the order issued on May 4, Sahai has been been given additional charge of Secretary, MNRE with immediate effect and till the joining of Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, (IAS) or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Sahai is an IAS officer of Uttarakhand cadre of 1986 batch. He is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Power since November 1, 2019.  He had also served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power from May 2018 to July 2019

Sahai is a senior bureaucrat and has held several important positions in the union as well as state governments. This includes Director General (equivalent to Additional Secretary) and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Principal Secretary in the Home Department. He also has served as Chairman and Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Secretary-cum-Commissioner (Transport) for Delhi government, Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board, Finance Secretary in the Government of NCT of Delhi, Home Secretary etc.

Academic career & Awards

Sahai was born in Bhagalpur, Bihar and spent his childhood in Jamshedpur, now situated in Jharkhand. He did his schooling from Loyola School. Later Sahai moved to Delhi for his graduation and studied History (Hons) from Hindu College. He has a Masters in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA wherein he focussed on Economic Policy.

The new power secretary has also been a Robert McNamara fellow at the Princeton University, USA and a recipient of Joint Japan World Bank Fellowship. He has also been awarded the Governor's Gold Medal for outstanding service in Arunachal Pradesh
