New Delhi: Raman Kumar (IAS) has been appointed as Private Secretary to the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Kumar at the level of Deputy Secretary for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or on co-terminus basis with the Minister or till he ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Minister or until further orders, whichever event occurs the earlier.

Raman Kumar is a 2009-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Bihar cadre. He is currently serving as Managing Director of Bihar Urban Development, Govt of Bihar. Prior to his current role, he was serving as District Magistrate of East Champaran, Bihar.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is a branch of the government. Ministry of Panchayati Raj looks into all matters relating to the Panchayati Raj and Panchayati Raj Institutions. It was created in May 2004. The ministry is headed by a minister of cabinet rank. The ministry is now headed by Giriraj Singh.
