Senior IPS officer SM Sahai gets tenure extension as Additional Secretary in NSCS

Senior IPS officer SM Sahai (IPS), who is currently serving as Additional Secretary in NSCS, has been given a tenure extension for a period of one year

New Delhi: Senior IPS officer SM Sahai (IPS), who is currently serving as Additional Secretary in National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), has been given a tenure extension for a period of one year. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal for extension in his deputation tenure on Thursday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the services of Sahai have been extended for a period of one year, beyond September 23, 2020 i.e. up-to September 23, 2021 or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Sahai is a 1987-batch Indian Police Service Officer (IPS) officer of Jammu & Kashmir. He is serving as Additional Secretary in NSCS since September 23, 2018.

National Security Council

The National Security Council (NSC) of India is an executive government agency tasked with advising the Prime Minister's Office on matters of national security and strategic interest.

It was established by the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on November 19, 1998, with Brajesh Mishra as the first National Security Advisor. Prior to the formation of the NSC, these activities were overseen by the Principal Secretary to the preceding Prime Minister.
