New Delhi: Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS) has been appointed as the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the premier investigating agency of India. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the appointment of Jaiswal in the late night of Tuesday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Jaiswal has been appointed to the post for a period of two years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the office or until further orders whichever is earlier.

He is currently serving as Director-General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Profile of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal

Jaiswal is a 1985-batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Maharashtra cadre. He has been serving as Director-General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) since January this year. Prior to his current assignment, he was serving as Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra and Police Commissioner of Mumbai. He has also been associated with the Research and Analysis Wing (RA&W), India's external intelligence agency for nine years, during which he served as the additional secretary of the organisation for three years.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the premier investigating agency of India under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. It was originally set up to investigate bribery and governmental corruption. In 1965 it received expanded jurisdiction to investigate breaches of central laws enforceable by the government, multi-state organised crime, multi-agency or international cases.
