Sujoy Lal Thaosen (IPS) is the new CRPF Chief

Sujoy Lal Thaosen has also served as a special DG in the Border Security Force (BSF). He was born on November 6, 1963, at Haflong in Assam.

New Delhi: Sujoy Lal Thaosen (IPS) has been appointed as the new Director General of CRPF. Sujoy Lal Thaosen is a 1988-batch officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently working as the director general (DG) of the border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). He has also been holding the additional charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

He has been appointed on the post from his joining date till November 30, 2023, which is the date of his superannuation, or till further orders, whichever is earlier. Thaosen's appointment was announced after the ongoing DG Kuldiep Singh (West Bengal Cadre, 1986 batch IPS officer) superannuated on September 30, 2022.

Prior to his appointment as DG of SSB, Sujoy Lal Thaosen was serving as a special DG in the Border Security Force (BSF). He was born on November 6, 1963, at Haflong in Assam. Hailing from Haflong in Assam, the senior IPS officer holds PhD from Ujjain University. He has served in different forces in various capacities, including the Special Protection Group (SPG). Thaosen had served twice in the SPG and was taking care of the security of PM Manmohan Singh and former Prime Ministers of India.

He also served the United Nations as part of the International Police Task Force (IPTF). For two years, from 1999 to 2000, he was deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
