New Delhi: GE T&D India Ltd, part of GE's grid solutions business in the country, announced that it has secured an order amounting to Rs 150 crore from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (RRVPNL) for the modernisation of its power grid network. The technology-driven project is a division of Smart Transmission Network and Asset Management System (STNAMS), the power utility's roadmap, to augment renewable energy and implement grid initiatives in the state.

Doubling renewable by 2022

Renewable sources make up approximately 34% that is 7.34 GW of the state's total installed power generation capacity of 21.6 GW. By 2022, Rajasthan is looking to increase solar and wind generation capacity to 14.3 GW, requiring grid stability and remote monitoring.

"India's renewable energy targets urgently require the state utilities to be able to make informed and accurate decisions for which advanced smart grid management systems will play a key role,"

The company's Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS) will allow the utility to alter production levels on the basis of demand, a company statement said. The software, part of GE's Digital Energy portfolio, will offer real-time data acquisition and a decision support system for visualization and situational awareness of the transmission grid, the statement added.

"India's renewable energy targets urgently require the state utilities to be able to make informed and accurate decisions for which advanced smart grid management systems will play a key role," said Sunil Wadhwa, Managing Director, GE T&D India and Leader of GE's Grid Solutions business in South Asia.
