Surya Narayan Panigrahi takes charge as Executive Director (HR) of NTPC

New Delhi: Surya Narayan Panigrahi has taken charge as Executive Director (HR) of NTPC Limited, following an extensive career of over 36 years with the power utility.

Prior to his elevation, Panigrahi served as Executive Director (HR)-cum-Regional Head of HR for NTPC’s Northern and Southern regions. He was elevated to the position of Executive Director (HR) with effect from June 8, 2026.

Over his career, Panigrahi has handled key responsibilities across recruitment, training and development, industrial relations, employee welfare, administration, security, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and HR digitalisation.

He has served at several major NTPC establishments, including Talcher Kaniha in Odisha, Vindhyachal in Madhya Pradesh, APCPL Jhajjar in Haryana, Tanda in Uttar Pradesh, the Corporate Centre in New Delhi, and the Southern and Northern Regional Headquarters in Hyderabad and Lucknow, respectively.

During his tenure at NTPC’s Corporate Centre, Panigrahi played a key role in implementing PeopleSoft HRMS and SAP ERP systems, contributing to the digital transformation of the company’s HR processes. He also contributed to the development of integrated security systems across the organisation.

He later headed HR at NTPC’s Tanda Super Thermal Power Station and subsequently led HR functions for the Southern and Northern regions. In December 2025, he took on additional responsibility as Regional Head of HR for the Northern Region while continuing his responsibilities for the Southern Region.

Panigrahi has also been associated with professional bodies including the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), All India Management Association (AIMA), National HRD Network (NHRD), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Power HR Forum and Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD).

He has participated as a guest and keynote speaker at professional forums, sharing his views on human resources, leadership and organisational development.

As Executive Director (HR), Panigrahi will oversee NTPC’s HR functions and support the company’s focus on organisational transformation, capability building and long-term growth.
