Lam Research to invest Rs 10K crore to set up silicon component manufacturing unit in India

Lam Research has announced plans to invest around Rs 10,000 crore in setting up its first silicon component manufacturing facility in India

New Delhi: Semiconductor equipment maker Lam Research has announced plans to invest around Rs 10,000 crore in setting up its first silicon component manufacturing facility in the country, the company said on Wednesday.

The new manufacturing facility will support a vertically integrated process spanning silicon ingot production and processing for advanced semiconductor technologies and leading-edge nodes, the US-based firm said in a statement.

"Lam Research Corp...intends to invest approximately Rs 10,000 crore to add its first silicon component manufacturing facility in the country and augment its advanced research and development operations," the statement said.

The planned augmentation to R&D builds on Lam’s India Center for Engineering, which already supports Lam’s work for customers globally in key areas such as design, testing, validation, and next-generation technology development.

Lam intends to make the new investment over the next several years, the statement added.

"The new manufacturing facility and augmented R&D operations are expected to create new opportunities for partnerships with local suppliers in India," the statement said.
