PM's speech at the two-day event will be more keenly anticipated this year, since it will be one of his last big speeches before the election code of conduct commences

New Delhi: For the fourth time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the Global Business Summit (GBS) in New Delhi on February 22. Modi's speech at the two-day event will be more keenly anticipated this year, since it will be one of his last big speeches before the election code of conduct commences. Like each year, the audience at the event will comprise top government officials, CEOs from global companies, business leaders, technology leaders, entrepreneurs, economists, consultants and so on.

Business and Elections

Modi's speech at the summit will be one of the most consequential events with the country gearing up for this year's General Elections. Over the years, Modi has created big headlines while addressing the summit. Last year, he spoke of how the country's economic transformation will not be complete if policies do not have "speed, scale, and sensitivity" to make sure the benefits of growth are spread widely.

Expect more headlines this time?

At the first edition of the two-day event in 2015, the PM had asked business in India to help the country become a US$ 20 trillion economy, while last year, he said that the government is taking stringent action against irregularities.

The PM's readiness to spend his political capital by putting into practice long-discussed reforms set him apart as his re-election campaign will be watched and analysed around the world.
