New Delhi: For supplying ship-borne 3D Air Surveillance Radars, Tata Power Strategic Engineering Division (SED) has secured a contract worth Rs 1,200 crore from the defence ministry. Tata Power SED has finalised an agreement with the Ministry of Defence to provide 23 ship-borne 3D Air Surveillance Radars to the Indian Navy over the next decade, an official statement said on Friday.
The contract was concluded under the Defence Procurement Procedure's (DPP) Buy & Make category. The company will execute the deal as the prime contractor with foreign Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partner Indra Sistemas, Spain.
The Indian Navy further improved its underwater surveillance capabilities in low-intensity maritime operations by signing a deal with the defence ministry in 2017 for supplying Portable Diver Detection Sonar (PDDS).
"This Contract is a part of 'Make in India' initiative and the second contract under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) procurement category 'Buy and Make (India)' signed by MoD. Tata Power SED partnered with DSIT Solutions Limited, Israel for the delivery of PDDS Systems under a Technology Transfer arrangement for DSIT's Pointshield PDDS. For Diver Detection Sonar's this is one of the largest order in the world market," Tata SED said in a statement.
Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) has joined in a share purchase deal with Tata Power to purchase Tata Power SED, depending on regulatory and other approvals.
