Changemakers: NTPC CSR helps 18 Girls Qualify for IIT-JEE Mains

New Delhi: How a small initiative leads to a noticeable change that impacts society at large, here is an example of it. India's largest power generating company, NTPC ran a programme called 'Super 30 girls'. Idea was to train girl child from economically weaker families for India's prestigious engineering entrance test, IIT-JEE. After one year of training and hard work of these girls, the result is, out of the batch of 25 girls, 18 have successfully cracked IIT-JEE mains. The programme is being run under NTPC's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Highlights of the Programme

The year-long residential program, implemented with an objective to coach students belonging to economically weaker families, brought these aspirants a step closer to fulfilling their dream of studying in some of India's premier institutes.

As part of this noble initiative, rolled out in association with the Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL), NTPC bears the entire cost of boarding, lodging and coaching for the girl students belonging to underprivileged families.

The Total spend of above 77 Lacs

After an MoU was signed between NTPC Northern Region Head Quarter in Lucknow and CSRL, New Delhi, NTPC & CSRL jointly initiated the 77.03 lakh-program for 30 girls selected from families living in the vicinity of NTPC plants in the northern region. During the tenure of the project, the students were provided with free stay & food and were imparted coaching and training to sit for entrance examinations (IIT/JEE/NIT) that would help them gain admission to eminent institutes in the country.

Started on 1st July 2018, the program, at present, has 25 girls studying at the 'NTPC Super 30 Girl' centre in Varanasi. These students were selected from various Government schools in Varanasi and Lucknow.
