Implemented by Child Rights and You (CRY) with support from GRSE, Project Akansha focuses on the holistic development of children and adolescents from vulnerable communities in the Munshiganj and Watganj-Hastings areas of Kolkata.
The initiative provides supplementary education, life-skills training, self-defence sessions, nutritional support and community engagement programmes aimed at creating a safe and enabling environment for children while improving their access to education and opportunities for overall development.
According to GRSE, the project has helped improve school enrolment and retention, strengthened life skills among children and adolescents, and enhanced community participation in child protection initiatives. It has also promoted the creation of trusted learning spaces and encouraged the active involvement of mothers and local stakeholders in safeguarding children's rights.
