MCL signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Sundargarh district administration on Tuesday for implementing the projects through the district administration.

The projects include the rejuvenation and beautification of Kata Bandha at a cost of Rs 4.32 crore, Brahamani Bandha for Rs 3.98 crore and Abdul Hussain Bandha for Rs 2.69 crore. The other initiatives comprise freshwater inland aquaculture in mining-affected areas of Hemgir block, with an allocation of Rs 3.81 crore, and the renovation, improvement and construction of tanks under the Talsara Assembly constituency, involving Rs 7.84 crore.

The General Manager (CSR) of MCL and the Sundargarh District Collector signed the MoUs for the implementation of the projects.

The water-body rejuvenation initiatives are aligned with the Amrit Sarovar mission and aim to improve water conservation, groundwater replenishment and the local environment. The projects will also develop recreational spaces, support small-scale tourism and generate economic opportunities for local communities.

The planned works include embankment protection, pathways, bathing steps, stone packing, railings, seating areas, electrical installations and horticulture.

The aquaculture project will be implemented in line with the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana. It is expected to benefit more than 700 small-scale farmers and members of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) through the development of 50 new ponds and the renovation of 20 existing ponds.
