MCL signs MoU to promote improved turmeric cultivation in Kandhamal

New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kandhamal district administration to promote improved turmeric cultivation and strengthen livelihood opportunities for farmers in the Odisha district.

The CSR initiative, with an outlay of around Rs 1 crore, will support farmers through the distribution of improved Salem variety turmeric rhizomes, along with training and technical guidance on scientific cultivation practices.

The project aims to improve crop productivity and farm incomes while promoting sustainable agricultural practices. It will provide farmers with quality planting material and technical know-how to adopt improved cultivation methods and enhance the value of turmeric farming.

The initiative is expected to support sustainable livelihood development and economic empowerment of farming communities in Kandhamal, an aspirational district of Odisha.

MCL has so far approved CSR projects worth more than Rs 21.57 crore in Kandhamal, underscoring its focus on inclusive and sustainable development in the district.
