New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the district administration of Kandhamal to launch the project "Strengthening Healthcare Initiatives to Combat Tuberculosis and Sickle Cell Anaemia in Kandhamal, Odisha." This initiative, undertaken as part of MCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program under the theme AAROGYA, aims to enhance healthcare services and improve the well-being of the district’s residents.
The MoU, valued at Rs 7.02 crore, was signed by MCL's General Manager (CSR) Bichitrananda Behera and the Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer of Kandhamal Santosh Kumar Padhi, in the presence of ADM Kandhamal Ramesh Chandra Jen, Arabinda Sahoo, Deputy Manager, (CSR), MCL and other dignitaries.
As an Aspirational District allocated to MCL, Kandhamal will benefit from key healthcare interventions under this initiative, focusing on: Screening for Anemia & Sickle Cell Anemia and Tuberculosis Control.
The project aims to reduce TB incidence and prevalence, ensure effective and complete treatment, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, raise awareness to reduce stigma, and improve socio-economic conditions. Additionally, for sickle cell anemia, the initiative will increase awareness about the disease, enhance screening services, strengthen healthcare facilities, and provide comprehensive support to affected patients and their families.
This initiative is set to benefit the entire population of Kandhamal district. It includes screening services, lab consumables, specialized health center units, health equipment, a dedicated vehicle, and food baskets for 7,200 TB patients, over a period of three years.
MCL has been actively implementing various development projects in Kandhamal, spanning healthcare, education, and livelihood enhancement, with an investment exceeding Rs 20 crore. These efforts reflect MCL’s commitment to improving the quality of life and ensuring better healthcare accessibility for the residents of the district.
