The launch, held on the eve of World Environment Day, marks a strategic shift in BEML’s operational framework, with the company announcing the complete phase-out of diesel-powered vehicles from its fleet. A total of 10 electric cars were ceremoniously flagged off by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, in the presence of the company’s functional directors and senior officials.

Commenting on the initiative, Roy said, “On the eve of World Environment Day, this initiative is a reaffirmation of BEML’s deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship. Transitioning to electric vehicles is not just about reducing emissions—it’s about leading the way in sustainable practices and setting new benchmarks for the industry.”

The EV deployment represents a foundational step in BEML’s broader vision to achieve carbon neutrality and integrate sustainability across its business operations. The public sector enterprise has laid out a roadmap to extend this green mobility initiative to its manufacturing complexes and regional offices across the country. Additionally, BEML is investing in EV-supportive infrastructure, including energy-efficient transport solutions, to establish a scalable and sustainable ecosystem at all four of its manufacturing plants.

With this transition, BEML joins a growing list of public sector companies embracing clean energy solutions and reinforces its position as a responsible, future-ready organisation. The move is expected to have a positive impact not only on the company’s environmental footprint but also on its role in driving innovation and sustainable transformation within the public sector.
