Govt clears appointment of Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay as CMD of GSL

ACC has approved the appointment of Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL)

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a PSU under the Ministry of Defence, on Friday. According to an order issued on July 7 from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Upadhyay has been appointed to the post for a period of five years from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Presently, he is serving as Director (Operations) in the same organisation.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Upadhyay was recommended for GSL's CMD post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on March 24. He was among six candidates who were interviewed for the position.

Upadhyay is Engineering Graduate (Electrical). He started his career with GSL in 1991. During his long career of over 30 years in GSL, he has held various key positions in various departments and has made significant contributions in areas of ship construction, diversification of products as part of General Engineering Services, Corporate Planning, Business Development, infrastructure development and ship repairs.

Prior to taking over as Director (Operations), BK Upadhyay was at the helm of forwarding Project Group Deptt, responsible for increasing GSL's outreach into the global defence market. He had spearheaded GSL's export projects of 11 Fast Interceptor Boats and Damage Control Simulator and has hands-on production experience on Missile Corvettes, Offshore Patrol Vessels and Fast Patrol Vessels and other class of vessels.

On the diversification front, Upadhyay had played a major role in bringing new technologies to GSL through the Transfer of Technologies (ToT) and MoUs with reputed and established international firms. He has played a pivotal role in establishing GSL as a major producer of Simulators in Indian sub-continent.
