New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has secured the contract for the second refit of Seychelles Coast Guard Ship PS Zoroaster, marking a significant milestone and reaffirming the shipyard’s technical capability and adherence to project timelines.
The refit contract has awarded to GRSE by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on February 6, in recognition of the shipyard’s performance during earlier assignments and agreement was signed by MEA's Joint Secretary (Indian Ocean Region) and GRSE's General Manager Commander Harish Kumar (Retd.).
According to the company, the refit work is scheduled to commence in early March 2026 and is expected to be completed within a period of three months.
PS Zoroaster was originally built by GRSE and was handed over to the Seychelles Coast Guard by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2021. The vessel had earlier undergone its maiden short refit at GRSE in 2024.
The return of PS Zoroaster to GRSE for its second refit aligns with India’s Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) vision. The refit is expected to further strengthen defence cooperation between India and Seychelles, contributing to enhanced maritime security and regional stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
