New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), a premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, signed a series of strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) at the prestigious Nor-Shipping 2025 event, held in Oslo, Norway from June 2 to 6. The agreements mark a significant step towards bolstering India's shipbuilding capabilities and expanding GRSE’s global partnerships.
A key highlight of GRSE’s engagements at Nor-Shipping was the signing of an MoI with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, for the construction of four additional 7,500 DWT Multi-Purpose Vessels. These vessels will be built at GRSE’s Kolkata yard, following the ongoing construction of eight similar vessels. The new vessels will incorporate hybrid propulsion systems and comply with the **latest cybersecurity regulations, reflecting a strong push towards greener and smarter maritime solutions. The firm contract for the construction is expected to be finalized by August 31.
In a move to enter the offshore platform and vessel construction market, GRSE signed a crucial MoU with Aries Marine, a renowned Dubai-based engineering and design firm. This partnership aims to jointly identify and develop offshore orders, with Aries providing design expertise and GRSE undertaking the shipbuilding activities. The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance GRSE’s footprint in the international offshore market.
Additionally, GRSE also formalized an MoU with a leading Global Engine Manufacturer on June 4, further strengthening its technological and operational capabilities.
These developments come shortly after GRSE signed an MoU with Kongsberg Maritime, Norway, in anticipation of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a Polar Research Vessel for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India.
Speaking on the occasion, GRSE officials highlighted that these strategic collaborations will play a vital role in enhancing India’s self-reliance in shipbuilding, while also enabling GRSE to tap into new global markets.
GRSE’s active participation at Nor-Shipping 2025 underscores its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and international cooperation in maritime engineering.
