The defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence ceremonially launched INS Shachi (Yard 1280), a Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), marking a key development under the Indian Navy’s modernisation programme. The launch ceremony was conducted in the presence of senior naval officials, including Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti.

On the same day, GSL also delivered Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Achal (Yard 1274), which was formally accepted by the Indian Coast Guard. The vessel is expected to enhance coastal surveillance, maritime law enforcement, and national security operations.

Commenting on the development, GSL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay said the simultaneous achievement reflects the shipyard’s strong execution capabilities and operational excellence, along with its close synergy with the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.

He highlighted that GSL has launched 14 vessels in the past 600 days, translating to an average of one vessel every 40–43 days, underscoring the yard’s enhanced industrial capacity and streamlined processes.

Both vessels underscore the government’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing. While ICGS Achal has been built with over 65 percent indigenous content, INS Shachi incorporates around 76 percent indigenous components, including design and advanced systems sourced domestically.

The company said the achievement aligns with flagship initiatives such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, further strengthening India’s position as a self-reliant maritime power.
