New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) to explore the development of a greenfield shipyard in the state. The agreement was formalised during the 30th CII Partnership Summit 2025 held in Visakhapatnam.
The MoU has been signed by Kiran Easankarala, Director (Finance & Commercial), HSL; and Abhishek Kumar, IAS, CEO, APMB. The ceremony took place in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
The event was also graced by the Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan; the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Syed Abdul Nazeer; and Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal.
According to HSL, the collaboration aims to support the Government of India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 by boosting the country’s shipbuilding capabilities. A greenfield shipyard in Andhra Pradesh is expected to increase large-scale shipbuilding capacity, promote advanced vessel construction, attract global partnerships, and generate high-value employment.
The summit witnessed participation from major industry leaders across the ports, infrastructure, aviation, manufacturing, healthcare, and retail sectors, indicating strong private-sector interest in the state’s maritime growth potential.
HSL said it remains committed to strengthening India’s maritime ecosystem through strategic collaboration, technology innovation, and capacity expansion in alignment with national maritime goals.
