New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s indigenous defence manufacturing & shipbuilding capabilities, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has successfully delivered the DP-II Diving Support Vessel (DSV) Nistar to the Indian Navy. The vessel has been handed over during a formal ceremony held on Tuesday at HSL, Visakhapatnam, in the presence of senior naval and shipyard officials.
The acceptance document (D448) has been signed by Commodore Hemant Khatri (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director of HSL, and Commander Amit Subhro Banerji, Commanding Officer of Nistar. Rear Admiral Ravnish Seth, VSM, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Eastern Naval Command; Capt G Venkateswarlu, Director (Shipbuilding) of HSL along with other senior representatives from the Indian Navy and HSL were also present on the occasion.
The delivery of Nistar marks a significant milestone for HSL, following its earlier successful delivery of INS Dhruv in 2020. The back-to-back handover of these high-technology strategic platforms underscores HSL’s transformation from a builder of smaller auxiliary vessels and tugs to a manufacturer of advanced warfighting assets.
Designed and built indigenously, Nistar is equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems and advanced dynamic positioning capabilities (DP-II), making it a crucial asset for underwater support and naval operations. The vessel is a testimony to HSL’s enhanced technological prowess, precision engineering, and shipbuilding expertise.
This development aligns with the Government of India’s flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative and reflects the growing role of Indian shipyards in bolstering the country’s maritime defence infrastructure.
