During the refit process, the shipyard undertook nearly 35 percent more work than originally planned, which included sourcing numerous additional spares. Despite the expanded scope, HSL, in close coordination with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and business partner Asha Engineering Works, ensured timely completion of the project.

Major works carried out included replacement of stern tube and ‘A’ bracket bearings, renewal of shaft tunnel hull boss plates without removing the propeller shaft, and installation of nine new pumps followed by successful trials. Extensive maintenance routines were completed for machinery, air conditioning and refrigeration, fire-fighting, and fuel systems. The project also involved renewal of 12 tonnes of steel, overhaul of 140 motors, 300 valves, and 46 pumps, along with replacement of three kilometres of pipelines.

HSL said the early delivery reflects its capability in handling complex refits, backed by skilled manpower, robust project management, and seamless stakeholder coordination.
