MoD inks Rs 425 crore contract for 12 sets of 1.25 MW Marine Gas Turbine Generators for Indian Navy

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Forge Ltd for the supply of gas turbine generators to Indian Navy for onboard power generation on Kolkata class ships

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Forge Limited, Pune for the acquisition of 12 sets of 1.25 MW Marine Gas Turbine Generators, with minimum 60 percent indigenous content, for the Indian Navy at a total cost of around Rs 425 crore. The contract has been inked under Buy (Indian) category in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on Friday.

According to an official statement, the contract will be executed over a period of five years it said.

As part of the deal, the company will establish a dedicated Integration and test facility for these generators besides participating in design and development programmes for larger power plants and propulsion gas turbines, Bharat Forge said in a statement.

These manufacturing capabilities will also serve the significant needs of Indian armed forces in general with local production and ensure complete sovereignty on maintenance and overhaul operations of GTs/GTGs, the statement added.
