New Delhi: In a significant step toward promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has inducted five additional electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet. The initiative underscores GRSE’s commitment to fostering a greener and more sustainable future for India.
GRSE Director (Personnel) DIG Subrato Ghosh, ICG (Retd.) inaugurated the electric vehicles at the company’s 61 Park Unit in Kolkata. The event was attended by representatives from Orix Auto Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., Tata Motors, and senior GRSE officials. With this addition, GRSE’s total EV fleet now stands at 19, further advancing the company’s Green Energy Drive.
The EV procurement aligns with the Government of India’s “Go Electric Campaign” and showcases GRSE’s leadership among Defence PSUs in adopting eco-friendly transportation. Over the past three years, the company’s EV fleet has achieved a significant reduction in environmental impact, saving approximately 1,19,700 liters of fossil fuel and cutting 208.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The newly inducted EVs are projected to reduce emissions by an additional 24.82 metric tons annually.
“This initiative reinforces GRSE's commitment to sustainability and innovation. By significantly reducing carbon emissions and fossil fuel usage, we are contributing to a cleaner future and setting a benchmark for others to follow,” said DIG Ghosh.
GRSE’s push toward electric mobility complements its broader strategy of integrating green technologies into its operations and shipbuilding projects. The company is actively exploring innovative solutions to enhance the environmental sustainability of its maritime platforms, aligning with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and supporting indigenous EV manufacturing.
