The campaign was formally inaugurated by Indian Oil's Director (Refineries) Arvind Kumar, who also felicitated members of the housekeeping team, recognised as "Swachhata Mitras", for their contribution towards maintaining clean and hygienic workplaces. He presented them with Swachhata Kits, administered the Swachhata Pledge and unveiled a thematic poster based on this year's theme, "Swachhata is Everyone's Responsibility."

Addressing employees during the inaugural event, Kumar said that cleanliness should become an everyday habit and a shared social responsibility. He noted that Swachhata Pakhwada is being observed across Indian Oil's Refineries Division with equal commitment at the Refineries Headquarters as well as all refinery units.

He said the fortnight-long campaign includes cleanliness drives, shramdaan, plantation programmes and awareness sessions aimed at encouraging active participation from employees and contract workers. According to him, sustained efforts to spread awareness on cleanliness across the workforce have helped foster a culture where hygiene and safety are viewed as collective responsibilities rather than isolated tasks.

Swachhata Pakhwada is observed twice every year across ministries and departments of the Govt as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The initiative seeks to institutionalise cleanliness as a regular workplace practice while promoting sanitation, hygiene awareness and public participation in surrounding communities.

During the fortnight, Indian Oil's refineries and establishments across the country will organise a series of activities, including cleanliness drives, shramdaan, plantation campaigns and awareness initiatives. The programmes will focus on encouraging sustainable habits and greater public participation among employees, contract workers and local communities.
