New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) undertook a massive single-day plantation drive across its operational areas, planting over 3 lakh saplings on Tuesday.

In line with the directions of the Minister of Coal & Mines, this initiative was carried out with the objective to enhance green cover in and around mining areas, restore ecological balance, conserve biodiversity and strengthen carbon sequestration, contributing to climate resilience, as part of the nationwide Green Coal Mining Initiative and Guinness World Record Plantation Campaign.

These saplings were planted in 30 designated locations spread across four districts of Odisha, covering over 100 hectares of land, including MCL operational areas, backfilled areas, overburden dumps, office premises and along avenues, as well as in nearby villages and government lands.
The drive witnessed active participation from employees, local communities, students, women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs), public representatives and other stakeholders, reflecting a collective effort towards environmental sustainability.
The initiative is part of MCL’s continued efforts towards responsible mining and environmental conservation, with focus on sustainable development and community participation
