Power Secretary visits Damodar Valley Corporation

Kolkata: Sanjiv Nandan Sahai, Secretary at Ministry of Power, visited Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), a state-run Miniratna power PSU, in Kolkata on November 21. Sahai was welcomed by DVC's Chairman Gurdeep Singh. During his visit to DVC, the Secretary (Power) was given Guard of Honour and he planted a tree on the premises of DVC Towers. DVC's Member (Secretary and Finance) S Halder, DVC's Member (Technical) P Tiwari, DVC's Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) SL Bhalotia and senior officials of DVC were also present on the occasion.

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC)

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is a PSU which operates in the Damodar River area of West Bengal and Jharkhand. The corporation operates both thermal power stations and hydel power stations under the Ministry of Power. DVC is headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal. DVC developed and expanded its infrastructure to six thermal power stations (7,410 MW) and three hydro-electric power stations, with a capacity of 147.2 MW, which contribute a total installed capacity of 7557.2 MW. Presently, DVC has 49 sub-stations and receiving stations and over 8,900 km of transmission and distribution lines. DVC also has four dams, a barrage and a network of canals (2,494 km) that play an effective role in water management. The construction of check dams, development of forests and farms and upland and wasteland treatment developed by DVC play a vital role in eco-conservation and environment management.
