Rourkela: With the objective of making the steel making process in SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) greener and even more environment-friendly, Secondary Emission Control Systems were inaugurated the Basic Oxygen Furnace- 1 and 2 of Steel Melting Shop-2 on December 30. RSP's Chief Executive Officer Dipak Chattaraj inaugurated the systems in the presence of a large gathering of senior officers and employees. Among others, RSP's Executive Director (OSD) PK Das, Executive Director (Works) Gautam Banerjee, Executive Director (MM) DK Mohapatra, Executive Director (Projects) Pankaj Kumar of RSP, Environment Scientist Babita Singh and Assistant Environment Engineer of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) of Rourkela Dipak Sahu were also presents on the occasion.
It is worth mentioning here that the secondary ventilation systems are designed to collect gases and fumes by specially designed hoods/enclosures, arranged as close as possible at the emission source, during material handling and non-blow period. The dust from the gases is then separated and deposited by the Electro Static Precipitators (ESP). The clean gas is then discharged through a stack to the atmosphere. Dust collected at ESP is conveyed by chain conveyors into a dust silo.

Addressing the gathering of senior officers later in the Conference Hall of the Steel Melting Shop-II Conference, Chattaraj congratulated the collective for implementing the systems and said that being a responsible corporate citizen RSP is committed to keeping the environment clean and green. Speaking on the occasion, Das, Banerjee, Mohapatra and Kumar also applauded the team for the carrying out the jobs in running converters. Dipak Sahu in his address specially thanked Dipak Chattaraj, for taking the initiative and completing the project in a very short time. RSP's Chief General Manager Incharge (Steel) AK Chakraborty welcomed and coordinated the programme, while Chief General Manager (SMS-I) RK Patra proposed a vote of thanks.
