Even as the glitch has been fixed and server restored, the chaos is set to continue till the time stranded passengers are out on flights
New Delhi: A software problem with Air India servers that grounded all the flights operated by the airline since 1 am on Saturday night across all airports in India and at some airports across the world has been fixed. "Our server system SITA, which faced a temporary glitch, this morning was restored at 0845hrs. Air India senior executives, including CMD, Directors, Station Heads rushed to airports to take control of situation & facilitate pax. Flts rescheduled to minimise inconvenience," the national carrier said.
Even as the glitch has been fixed and server restored, the chaos is set to continue till the time stranded passengers are out on flights, which is likely to take over a day or even more. The software issue is estimated to have led to the cancellation of around 119 flights till now.
An Air India spokesperson had earlier said, "SITA server is down. Due to which flight operation is affected. Our technical teams are on work and system will soon be recovered. "
The airline released a list of flights on Twitter that have been rescheduled and asked passengers to leave accordingly as per the revised timings and watch the airline's handle on social media for updates.
However, even as the system has been rectified, sources said that the number of cancellations are set to increase and it will take the airline more than a day to put passengers who have been at airports on flights.
Air India, on its part, has said that it is trying to put as many flights in the air as possible.
