Bengaluru: Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Defence, has won the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) PSE Excellence awards in three categories 'research and development,' 'operational performance' and 'human resources.' BEL's CMD, Gowtama MV received the awards from former Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Dr Ajay Dua and former Director-General, Border Roads Organisation, Lt General Ravi Shankar, at a function held in New Delhi on Thursday.
"The award applications were judged by an independent and distinguished jury based on quantifiable parameters applied on detailed analysis of PricewaterhouseCoopers," said a press release. Gowtama joined BEL's Ghaziabad unit in January 1983 as a probationary engineer. Later, he was transferred to Hyderabad unit in May 1986. He took over as GM (Technology Planning) in BEL's corporate office, on February 1, 2010. Later he served as GM (Milcom) and was Executive Director (Missile Systems) there. He took over as the CMD of BEL on November 8, 2016.
Gowtama completed his B. Tech in electronics and communications from Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering, Tirupati. He also completed M. Tech in advanced electronics from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, while in service.
