New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Bimlendu Kumar as Director (Personnel) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal on January 14. Prior to this, Kumar was serving as General Manager at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). He has been appointed "with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post till the date of his superannuation, ie July 31, 2021, or until further orders, whichever is earlier," said an order from the DOPT.

PSU Watch had earlier reported that Kumar was recommended for the post of Director (Personnel) of NCL by a Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on October 1. He was selected from a list of nine candidates for the post.

Northern Coalfields Limited

NCL is a subsidiary of the largest coal producer of the world-the Coal India Limited (CIL). NCL produces 15 percent of the total coal produced in the country and contributes 10 percent in total electricity generation of the nation. The company, which is headquartered in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, operates through its 10 highly mechanised opencast mines spread across Singrauli and Sonebhadra districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
