BSNL employees send out urgent plea to PMO

PSU Watch Bureau

New Delhi: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officers have made an urgent plea to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to take a decision on the telecom public sector company's revival, while warning that anymore delay in the matter would lead to things going out of hand. The group also asked the PMO to take a decision on facilitating a soft loan for meeting BSNL's capital as well as operational expenses.

"The situation is worsening and if a decision is not taken by the PMO, and a soft loan is not provided to meet Capex and Opex, BSNL will not last long. We have already apprised the PMO of the situation," Sanchar Nigam Executives' Association (SNEA) president Aftab Ahmad Khan said.

'Situation deteriorating with every passing day'

Khan added that the SNEA has informed the PMO about the state-owned enterprise's situation which is deteriorating with each passing day as the government bodies drag their feet on the matter.

He added that the Department of Telecom (DoT) has not even released a credit worth Rs 3,300 crores since the Presidential Sanction it granted in March this year after the public sector undertaking (PSU) delayed salaries for the first time.

'Urgent need for speedy revival'

The letter, dated July 15, stressed on "an urgent need for speedy revival," and added that if the decision-making is delayed by another 60-90 days, it would become "too late" making BSNL revival impossible.
