CIL signs MoU with IPRCL for first-mile connectivity

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Port Rail Corporation Limited (IPRCL), a Joint Venture company under the Ministry of Shipping, to execute CIL's first-mile connectivity projects. Under this MoU, IPRCL will also execute rail infrastructure works, construction of additional sidings and rail line connectivity with main railway lines for CIL.

The MoU has been signed by CIL's Director (Technical) Binay Dayal and IPRCL's Managing Director (MD) Anoop Kumar Agrawal on behalf of CIL and IPRCL, respectively. CIL's Chairman Pramod Agrawal, Director (P&IR) Ram Prakash Srivastava,  Director (Finance) Sanjay Soni, Director (Marketing) SN Tiwary, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) Saroj Kumar Sadangi and IPRCL's Director Anil Kumar Gupta were present on the occasion.

What is first-mile connectivity of CIL?

The first-mile connectivity for Coal India is to transport coal from pithead to despatch point. Coal India had said earlier that it is investing Rs 17,500 core in the next five years to adopt mechanised coal transportation. Under the mechanised system, coal will be transported through piped conveyor belts from the pitheads to despatch points which will replace road transportation wholly.
