New Delhi: As the country is set to observe a self-imposed curfew on March 22 to battle Coronavirus, IndianOil has initiated a rare protocol to safeguard its workforce while ensuring that the fuel supplies keep flowing uninterrupted. "We are in a business where we need to ensure not just consumers get uninterrupted supplies of petrol, diesel and cooking gas (LPG), but also airlines get jet fuel on demand and supply lines for nation's defence forces are unhindered," IndianOil Chairman Sanjiv Singh said on Saturday.
In order to curb Coronavirus spread and at the same time meet the fuel requirements of the nation, IndianOil has implemented work from home at non-critical locations and staggered work hours and working on alternate days at others with precautions.
"We have an obligation towards the nation to keep its supply lines running and we are doing everything while ensuring employee and consumer safety," Singh said and added that rare times require extraordinary measures and IndianOil and all its employees are rising to the occasion to serve the nation.
To keep fuel supply lines running, oil refineries have to function, depots have to operate, pipelines need to flow and retail outlets need to dispense fuel, the IndianOil CMD said. The company has initiated safeguard measures at its retail outlets, such as petrol pumps and LPG delivery services, and has asked employees to use hand sanitisers and face masks.

"At petrol pumps and LPG distributorships, the company is trying to run operations with minimum number of employees while ensuring they dont take public transport, Singh said.
All IndianOil fuel stations will be open as per their regular working hrs on March 22, subject to local directives of state governments and district administrations. The fuel stations will operate with skeletal staff to serve customers while ensuring social distancing norms, an internal communication, accessed by PSU Watch, said. IndianOil Emergency Service Cell number 1906 for LPG customers will be operational as usual on March 22, it said.
