New Delhi: Navratna PSU Engineers India Limited (EIL) said on Friday that it has been awarded a work order by another Petroleum Ministry PSU, Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), for the preparation of BDEP (basic design and engineering package), DFR (detailed feasibility report) and pre-project activities for Bio-ATF Plant at MRPL. This information was shared by EIL in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Friday. However, the project cost has not been disclosed by the PSU.

According to the filing, the bio-ATF plant, which will use non-edible oils and used cooking oil as feedstock, shall be the first-of-its-kind in India and will be based on technology developed by CSIR-IIP and EIL. Bio-ATF, also known as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) fuels, would not only contribute to India's net-zero carbon emission target but will also help in cutting India's dependence on crude oil imports.
